Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior political figure commented the attack left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
